LagosPhoto Announces 2013 Etisalat Photography Competition featuring the theme, The Megacity
In its bid to nurture and develop emerging photographic talent in Nigeria, Etisalat and LagosPhoto 2013 present the Etisalat Photography Competition themed: “The Megacity”, where interested amateur photographers are required to capture the city of Lagos in their own unique visual language.
As Lagos is the second largest growing city in Africa, in many ways it represents the future megapolis of the urban imagination. “The Megacity” looks at Lagos as an urban centre in transition, quickly adapting to vast changes taking place at an unprecedented speed, and the contradictions, grey areas, and sites of dispute.
This year Etisalat and LagosPhoto will utilize multiple web-based platforms and social media such as Twitter and Facebook to reach a larger audience, making it easier for the public to view, comment, and submit. The 2013 Festival will also launch the LagosPhoto Mobile App. Accessible on iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and Windows mobile devices, the app will contain an archive of past LagosPhoto Festival content, including images, current and past artist biographies, indoor and outdoor exhibition locations from previous years, and opportunities for individuals to submit imagery related to each year’s theme.
